mRNA SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination Before vs During Pregnancy and Omicron Infection Among Infants

Abstract

Infants younger than 6 months face an elevated risk of severe SARS-CoV-2 infection. Despite this, there is insufficient data on the ideal timing for maternal vaccination and its effectiveness against Omicron variants, including XBB, for this vulnerable population. This study seeks to investigate the impact of maternal vaccination against Omicron variants, particularly XBB. It specifically explores the association between vaccination timing (during pregnancy vs. prior to pregnancy) and the risks of SARS-CoV-2 infection among infants aged 6 months or younger.
