Dr. Maciek Godycki-Cwirko

Doctor Maciek Godycki-Cwirko was born in 1957 in Sopot, Poland, and graduated at University of Lodz with master degree in mathematics in 1981 and diploma in philosophy in 1984. Between 1983 and 1986 he worked as a lecturer in logics in University of Lodz and in 1991 as a professor of ethics in a college. He graduated as MD in 1992 at Medical University of Lodz. He was a fellow of the British Council in 1993 in Sheffield, England. In 1994-95 he completed his vocational training in family medicine and passed speciality exam in 1995. In 1994-96 he was representative to EU-Poland PHARE Project on Restructuring Primary Health Care. From 1994 he has been coordinator deputy in the Regional Training Unit for family physicians. From 1996 he works as family physician, senior partner in 3 doctors teaching family practice in Lodz and is a chief editor of the College of Family Physicians in Poland peer-reviewed journal "Lekarz Rodzinny". In 1996-1999 he coordinated Tempus Joint European Project. In 2001 he was country representative at WHO Primary Health Care Policy Review Workshop in Copenhagen and completed project HOPE Course in Health Care Higher Level Management. In 2004 he passed medical specialty exam in public health. From 2005 is a head of the Department of Family and Community Medicine in Medical University of Lodz. Doctor Godycki-Cwirko presented his PhD in Lodz in 2000. In meantime he participated in a few research projects: GP brief intervention in problem drinkers (1997); PHC utilization in GPs' practices (1998); GPs' attitudes towards health promotion and prevention (2000); dietary advice in general practice (2003): healthy diet in primary care (2004). He has had more than 30 papers published in peer-reviewed journals and chapters in 18 textbooks. He has made about 40 presentations at international scientific meetings and has given 7 invited lectures. He is the vice-president of the College of Family Physicians in Poland and Polish representative in European Group on Health Promotion and Prevention in FM/GP EUROPREV, Council and Steering Board Member, member of the Polish Academy of Family Medicine and of the British Alumni Society.
