ESWI's scientific independence

To finance its activities and plans, ESWI receives equal annual grants from pharmaceutical companies. Its scientific independence, however, is absolute and indisputable, as it is explicitly included in the group’s constitution:

Article 20
The financial contributors will regularly be informed about ESWI’s plans and ongoing projects. Financial contributors shall have no voting rights and, therefore, no binding decisions can be made at their meetings.

 

In addition, ESWI’s rules of practice stipulate:

Article 6: decision making process
The scientific, strategic and organizational independence of the group is enshrined in the decision making process of the organization:

- Preparatory work done by Executive Committee (4 meetings per year)

- Budget, policy and actions discussed, approved and evaluated by Board of Directors 

- Regular exchange moments between ESWI and its financial contributors. Sharing of ideas. These meetings cannot take any decisions.

Manufacturers of influenza vaccines join forces in (European Vaccine Manufacturers) in order to promote a favourable climate for expanded vaccine protection and improved vaccine coverage in Europe. Manufacturers of influenza vaccines are assembled in the Influenza Vaccine Supply international task force to assist business leaders in ensuring adequate flu vaccine production capacity in the event of a pandemic, and to provide advice to health authorities regarding vaccination recommendations and delivery strategies.
